Job Description

Job Purpose:
The Commis plays a vital role in the culinary team, responsible for assisting in food preparation, cooking, and maintaining kitchen cleanliness. This position supports the Chef de Partie and Sous Chef in delivering high-quality dishes, adhering to food safety standards, and contributing to an exceptional dining experience for our guests.

Key Responsibility areas & activities

‒ Assist in food preparation, including cutting, chopping, and peeling ingredients.
‒ Execute cooking tasks under the guidance of the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
‒ Ensure kitchen cleanliness and sanitation, including equipment and workstations.
‒ Follow food safety guidelines and maintain proper food storage practices.
‒ Collaborate with colleagues to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
‒ Communicate effectively within the kitchen team to coordinate tasks.
‒ Support the maintenance of inventory and report shortages as needed.
‒ Contribute to food presentation and portion control.
‒ Always comply with safety and hygiene standards.

Operating Environment:
‒ The Commis primarily operates within the kitchen, participating in food preparation and cooking activities.

Communication & Working Relationships:
Internal:
‒ Collaborate closely with kitchen colleagues, including Chef de Partie, Demi Chef de Partie, and other culinary staff.
‒ Coordinate with front-of-house staff for efficient service.
External:
‒ Limited interaction with suppliers or delivery personnel during ingredient shipments.

Decision Making:
‒ Assisting in food preparation and cooking.
‒ Following food safety and hygiene protocols.
‒ Collaborating on kitchen tasks and coordination.
‒ Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen.

Problems & Challenges:
‒ Meeting culinary standards and quality expectations.

Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
Qualifications and Experience:
‒ Culinary school diploma or relevant culinary training is a plus.
‒ Prior experience as a kitchen helper or equivalent culinary role is beneficial.
‒ Knowledge of basic food safety and hygiene practices.
