Job Title: Transportation Manager with Engineering Expertise

Job Summary:

The Transportation Manager will oversee and manage the transportation and logistics operations of the company, ensuring the efficient and cost-effective transportation of materials, equipment, and personnel to and from construction sites. Leveraging an engineering background, the manager will contribute to strategic planning, optimizing transport routes, and integrating innovative engineering solutions to improve transportation safety, efficiency, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Logistics and Transportation Management:
Plan and manage transportation and logistics activities, ensuring timely and safe delivery of materials and equipment to job sites.
Develop and implement transportation strategies to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and meet project deadlines.
Optimize transport routes and scheduling to ensure the most efficient use of company resources.
Oversee vehicle fleet management, including maintenance schedules, fuel management, and driver assignment.
Engineering Input and Problem-Solving:
Utilize engineering expertise to assess the structural capacity of transport vehicles and equipment.
Provide technical insights to improve the transport of large or sensitive materials, ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
Collaborate with project engineers to align transportation logistics with construction and project requirements.
Evaluate and recommend new technologies or engineering solutions that enhance the transportation process (GPS tracking, vehicle design improvements).
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure all transportation activities comply with local, state, and federal transportation regulations (DOT, OSHA).
Monitor and enforce adherence to safety protocols for the transportation of hazardous or oversized materials.
Conduct regular safety audits of the transport fleet and identify areas for improvement.
Vendor and Contractor Management:
Establish and maintain relationships with third-party transportation service providers and contractors.
Negotiate transportation contracts and manage vendor performance.
Monitor costs and service quality, ensuring contracts align with the company’s objectives and standards.
Team Leadership and Development:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of drivers, logistics coordinators, and transportation personnel.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing training to improve the team’s skills and capabilities.
Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement within the transportation team.
Budgeting and Reporting:
Prepare and manage transportation budgets, monitoring expenses to ensure adherence to financial targets.
Generate reports on transportation performance metrics, including cost-efficiency, delivery times, and fuel usage.
Work closely with finance and operations teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements.
Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Engineering
Experience:
12 to 15 years of experience in transportation management, preferably in the construction or contracting industry.
Strong background in engineering, with experience in logistics planning, fleet management, or similar roles.
Certifications: PMP, Certified Transportation Manager (CTM), or similar certifications (preferred).
Skills and Competencies:

Strong knowledge of transportation systems, logistics, and fleet management principles.
Proficiency in engineering principles as they apply to transportation (vehicle load capacity, material handling.).
Experience with transportation management software and GPS tracking systems.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent problem-solving abilities, especially in applying engineering solutions to logistics challenges.
Understanding of local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
Excellent negotiation, budgeting, and financial management skills.
