Position Title: Fire & Gas Technician

Industry: Oil / Gas Refinery

Job Summary:
The Fire & Gas Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and operational integrity of oil and gas facilities by maintaining and operating fire detection, gas detection, fire suppression systems, and related safety equipment. This position involves regular inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fire and gas systems to protect personnel, assets, and the environment from fire and gas-related hazards.

Key Responsibilities:

1- Maintenance and Testing:
Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on fire and gas detection systems, fire alarms, gas detectors, fire suppression systems (e.g., deluge systems, portable extinguishers), and related safety equipment.
Perform calibration, testing, and functional checks of fire and gas detection equipment (e.g., flame detectors, smoke detectors, gas detectors).
Ensure that all fire and gas systems comply with local, national, and international safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., NFPA, ISO).

2- Troubleshooting and Repairs:
Identify and troubleshoot faults or malfunctions in fire and gas detection systems and take corrective action to restore equipment functionality.
Perform repairs on faulty systems, including the replacement of components or parts when necessary.
Coordinate with the maintenance team for complex issues requiring specialized attention.
Safety and Compliance:

Ensure that all fire and gas safety systems are in full working order and meet regulatory and company safety requirements.
Prepare and maintain accurate documentation of all inspections, tests, maintenance, and repairs performed on fire and gas systems.
Assist in audits, drills, and safety inspections to ensure readiness in case of emergencies.

3- Emergency Response:
Respond quickly to alarms from fire or gas detection systems and assist in determining the source of potential hazards.
Participate in emergency drills, evacuation procedures, and other safety activities to ensure a high level of readiness for fire and gas-related incidents.

4- Training and Support:
Provide training and technical support to other personnel on the use of fire and gas systems.
Advise site management on necessary upgrades or improvements to fire and gas detection systems.

5- Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain logs and records of all system performance, maintenance activities, inspections, and any incidents related to fire and gas detection.
Generate reports on system status, maintenance schedules, and any corrective actions taken.

6- Coordination with Other Departments:
Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and safety departments to ensure that fire and gas safety equipment is integrated into the overall safety and operational plans of the facility.
Assist in the planning and execution of emergency response drills and safety exercises.

Required Qualifications:
Education:
Technical diploma in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or a related field.
Fire and Gas safety training and certification (e.g., H2S, fire watch, safety courses).
Certifications in Fire and Gas Detection systems (e.g., TUV, CompEx, NEBOSH, or equivalent) are highly desirable.

Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fire and gas detection systems, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
- Hands-on experience in maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting fire and gas detection systems.
- Experience working in hazardous environments such as offshore platforms or refineries is a plus.
