Job Description
An HVAC Technician (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technician) is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Installation:
Install HVAC systems, including air conditioning units, furnaces, heat pumps, ductwork, and ventilation systems.
Ensure proper setup and connection of electrical components and refrigerants.
2. Maintenance:
Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance.
Clean and replace filters, ducts, and other system components.
3. Repair & Troubleshooting:
Diagnose issues in HVAC systems, such as leaks, electrical malfunctions, or mechanical failures.
Repair or replace defective components, including compressors, fans, and thermostats.
4. System Testing:
Test HVAC systems for proper functionality using tools such as pressure gauges and thermometers.
Calibrate controls to ensure accurate temperature regulation.
5. Customer Service:
Communicate effectively with clients to explain issues, provide cost estimates, and recommend solutions. Offer advice on energy-efficient systems and proper system use.
6. Compliance & Safety:
Adhere to local, state, and federal HVAC codes and regulations.
Follow safety protocols to minimize risks, such as proper handling of refrigerants and electrical equipment.
Skills & Qualifications
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, including electrical, mechanical, and refrigerant components.
Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, hand tools, and power tools.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Physical stamina and ability to work in tight spaces or at heights.
Educational Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Vocational training or an apprenticeship in HVAC systems.
Certification in HVAC (e.g., EPA 608 Certification for handling refrigerants).
